America Burns

I closed the curtains and painted all day. My heart was full of sadness. I thought of George Floyd and the picture of the policeman aiming a gun near a little black boy who was on the shoulders of, probably his daddy. The sadness has lingered and my body aches from the hours of painting, but the day was full of challenges like how do I make a bird’s wing ethereal looking. With the death of George Floyd comes an email from a friend, The Irish Blessing – over 300 churches sing a blessing over Ireland.

They’re back!

Blue Angels Over Coit Tower  Maneuvers performed in tight formation at 400 mph.

I burned the onions!

First I heard the sound.  Then I heard a roar. The Blue Angels performed a flyover as they flew over San Francisco Bay.

I know, my feelings are contrary to a lot of other people’s feelings when it comes to the Blue Angels, but I just can’t help it.

I love the sound of a Ferrari engine revving up. I love the speed of a hydroplane.

I think the pilots are awesome when I see them flying in a Delta formation at 400 mph.

I’ll be watching the noisy jets this weekend, unless a blanket of  fog rolls in, covering up the Golden Gate Bridge.

Thinking about Richard  Guest’s post Realm of Dusk  http://thefutureispapiermache.wordpress.com/,  collage of photographs. Thinking about David Hockney’s exhibit, The Big Picture http://hockney.famsf.org/,  the way he experimented with different media. Thinking about Otto’s post  http://munchow.wordpress.com/philosophy,  trust in the creative process and find your own voice. And, thinking about a collaboration I did with Emily Hughes  http://journeyofaphotograph.com/2013/10/08/night-train-to-sapa/  And, Karen’s creative glimpses into her world http://drawandshoot.me/  (I think we were putting together our posts at the same time) I snapped some shots with my cell phone while driving to San Francisco during rush hour.  (Nope, I wasn’t driving.) This mélange is a quick capture of the traffic scene from 4 to 6 on November 14th 2013. Some images may be worth double clicking, like the abstract ones. The others? I was just clicking away with my cell phone. Just having fun playing around while spending a couple of hours in traffic !

When I was Two.

I was nearly new.

When I was Three

I was hardly me.

But now I am Six, I’m as clever as clever,

so I think I’ll be six now for ever and ever.”

Quote from A.A Milne, Now We Are Six

When you clean up your room, you find all kinds of things.
I found a box of of folded paintings I had made in
nursery school, when I was around three. My mother
had saved my first paintings.
The first painting is poster paint on faded yellowed paper.
The second painting is acrylic paint on canvas 30″ x 30″
I created this painting last month.
The thread is there. I’ve been making art
since I was was two and nearly new.

“I think about this regatta and what it means to sailing,” said Ellison. “I think it was absolutely spectacular. If a bunch of kids are inspired to go sail, I’m a happy guy.”
