After drawing squash players I crossed the aisle in the Seattle Athletic Club and watched my husband and son workout with kick boards. The feeling tone of the two sports shows up in the two drawings.
Derwent sketching Dark wash 8 B. is my favorite pencil now. It is water soluble You can really dig in with it. Graphite 8 B I think there is a 9 too is the softest pencil. also vine charcoal if you want to get gooey and really dark or very light line washing it off with water.
I love soft pencils. My favorite is my 4B. I prefer woodless pencils, so I was thrilled when I found a woodless 4B. I wish I were more comfortable with mess; then I’d use vine charcoal all the time!
I bought the brush at Kinokuniya Stationery and gift store in Japan center sf.Actually I bought a set of paints and brush there for my grand daughter. After she used it everyday for a year in England I went in and got the set . I just use the brush. I’ve seen different sizes on the internet. I like this little one for traveling.
It’s so abstracted but I love the feeling here, and the pencils (is it just pencil? looks like some water too?).

Oh, I love Kinokuniya… and Japan Center. I just discovered it a few months ago and couldn’t believe I’d never gone before.

I know what you mean – charcoal in the apartment kitchen doesn’t go over very well after you see the mess you created !
