little tree

December 18, 2011

Here’s a poem by e.e.cummings called little tree. I found it on a blog website

http://thegirlinthehat.wordpress.com/2011/12/11/enormous-tree/

Anna has a great blog going.

Merry Christmas !

little tree

little silent Christmas tree

you are so little

you are more like a flower

who found you in the green forest

and were you very sorry to come away?

see i will comfort you

because you smell so sweetly

i will kiss your cool bark

and hug you safe and tight

just as your mother would,

only don’t be afraid

look the spangles

that sleep all the year in a dark box

dreaming of being taken out and allowed to shine,

the balls the chains red and gold the fluffy threads,

put up your little arms

and i’ll give them all to you to hold

every finger shall have its ring

and there won’t be a single place dark or unhappy

then when you’re quite dressed

you’ll stand in the window for everyone to see

and how they’ll stare!

oh but you’ll be very proud

and my little sister and i will take hands

and looking up at our beautiful tree

we’ll dance and sing

What do you look like?

Two months after Radiation

One month before Surgery

The beginning of the year

Hey, vanity is stepping in around here. What do you look like? How do others see you? When they say you look great in a picture. do you? Do you even think about it?  What is your perception of yourself? Recently, I’ve seen a lot of pictures of me that should all be deleted. Has the surgery changed my face? Will it take time to go back? Or will it go back? Or does the animation of real life make up an image of someone? How long does it take  to repair what stress has done to your body?  Does the camera take an accurate image of a person? Is a painting a better representation of a person?  What about your imagination? Is that a better representation of yourself or your friend?  Who am I?  Who are you?  What do you look like?

Journey to Oz, a fourteenth century pub and a Lacrosse game in England

November 20, 2011

Enough of this cancer trip. Time to go down the yellow brick road and visit my daughter and her family. The youngest played Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. How could I not go and miss that? On Saturday both girls played Lacrosse. Funny, I go to England to watch Lacrosse which is a team sport developed in America. The laws of “football” or soccer were codified in Britian. Last year I blogged World Cup Soccer while watching TV in America. It was a good way to learn the game. I gave myself a project, watch all the games and post a blog after each game. I took pictures of the plays on TV , then paired them with photos I took in  South Africa.

John Janca’s Photos of the installation of my show are beautiful, nice and sharp. I’ll post them soon. My son-in-law took these photos of the church. The afternoon light was just perfect.

Both girls have sketchbooks that I started when they were born.

During our pub lunch we sketched. I’ll add to the books  photographs of the girls.

They will see what they looked like at different stages in their development.

San Francisco Celebrates Chinese New Year

February 4, 2011

Flowers and plants filled the streets of Chinatown last weekend while people enjoyed the flower fair. Plants symbolize growth. If a plant blooms on New Year’s Day, this will signify a year of prosperity. The Chinese believe that without flowers, there would be no formation of any fruits to bear seeds for the next generation. Therefore, it is important to have flowers and floral decorations in the home to begin a new year.

Empty wall Decorates Itself

January 29, 2011

I went to sleep looking at a plain, uninteresting  wall that needed some paintings or posters to perk it up. I woke up to this!

Canon PowerShot G11 ISO 100 13.0 sec at f/2.8. I used my small Gorilla tripod which is great for traveling ( my luggage usually gets checked.)  I’m sure it’s because of this black and white striped metal thing that has legs that curl around steady objects. The G11 is small too, perfect for me for all the time.
