Statement
“Traveling takes you to many places – some places are not so hot. How about visiting the cancer radiology lab? Right now I have no plans to go to Bali or Eastern Europe or Hawaii. I’m going to the cancer radiology lab five days a week. That is my traveling for the moment. Pairing, that is what I’m doing. Everyday I pair something good with my radiation treatments. I draw. It takes me to another place. I leave this world and have some time away from it all. Art and healing. It’s been around for a long time. As the Buddhists believe, everything is transitory. This time in my life will pass. I’ll be back on track traveling and recording my impressions.” July - December 2011
I am a 3rd generation Californian, who has lived in the Bay Area most of my life. I have shown welded steel sculpture in the San Francisco Museum of Art, abstract oil paintings in the San Diego Museum of Art and transparent hanging pieces in the Mills College Art Museum. After working with Black Boots Ink my work has been exhibited in a public art installation where we, photographers, returned images of the street back to the street. My artists’ books and paintings are in local and national collections. My photographs are on the internet at BetterPhoto.com.
I love to see new places. I draw, paint, write and make photographs wherever I go. When traveling I sketch in handmade books that have been prepared especially for the trip. Later these images become inspirations for paintings. After I’ve finished a series of paintings and an artists’ book, I send the artwork out into the world. If my work gives a few minutes of contemplation or pleasure to another person then I have done my job.

By changing my statement on my blog I’ve gone public with cancer, art and healing – maybe it will help someone.

Thank you for your kind comments.Recovery is taking its time. I’d like to be on a sailboat where I could sleep under the stars. wake up , roll into the sea for a swim then get out and have breakfast! I did that once near the Grenadine Islands. I tell people about your blog all the time. Sometimes I don’t find ‘like’ buttons but I am there looking often
